Raleigh offers a plethora of activities for those visiting and residing in the area. With so much to do, we wanted to provide you with our top five destinations to explore. Trust us! These shouldn’t be missed.

1. North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

Taking advantage of Raleigh's cutting edge and world-renowned research labs, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences offers visitors the incredible opportunity to experience and study the natural world at a detailed level. Every display presented answers four specific questions: what do we know, how do we know, what is happening now, and how can you anticipate it. The expert staff, research, extensive living collections, and lifelong education result in incredible exhibits ranging in topic from the world's largest dinosaurs to tiny microorganisms within the human body. Currently, the "Beyond Curie" exhibit is on display, complete with full-color illustrations, interactive iPad displays, 3-D models, and a cutting-edge augmented reality app showcasing 40 influential female scientists—including the Nobel Prize winner Marie Curie. Located in downtown Raleigh, this extraordinary natural science museum is the southeast’s largest educational establishment, and it’s distinguished by the iconic SECU Daily Planet landmark.  The museum's affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution and American Alliance of Museum is evident through the high caliber displays and level of detail present throughout all presentations.

2. Pullen Park

Pullen Park is not only the first public park in North Carolina, but also the 5th oldest amusement park in the United States. Perfect for families and kids, Pullen Park offers a wide array of activities, including: the 1911 Gustave A. Dentzel Menagerie Carousel, C.P. Huntington train rides, plays held at the Theater in the Park, boat rentals for Lake Howell, baseball fields, picnic tables, tennis courts, arts center, and plenty more. As one of Trip Advisor's top picks for things to do in Raleigh, the scenic landscaping with spectacular gardens, and the unique collection of rides and activities are sure to peak anyone’s interest.

3. Marbles Kids Museum

Located in Downtown Raleigh, Marbles Kids Museum has been a family favorite since opening in 2007. Each hands-on exhibit encourages children to use their curiosity, investigation skills, and most importantly, imagination while enjoying each of the 13 indoor and outdoor exhibits. Their "Play-losophy" revolves around the intellectual growth, emotional well-being, and physical development that stems from engaging children in fun play. Additionally, Marbles has a 267-seat Wachovia IMAX Theatre that is the only 3D IMAX theater in the state of North Carolina. The interactive museum caters to both children and parents, holding events such as the Big Idea Forum with keynote speaker Jason Kotecki, renowned artist and author, along with the Imagination Ball which involves spectacular food, drinks, dancing, and auction items.

4. Dorothea Dix Park

Welcome to Dorothea Dix Park, a private retreat located in the heart of Raleigh! Visitors can treat themselves to a soothing stroll through the rolling meadows and serene tree groves or choose from a wide array of exciting activities and programs. There are a host of events being held at the Park, including Yoga in the Park on September 4th, Self Defense classes on September 3rd and 10th, and Little Explorers - Reptiles Rock on September 11th, where preschoolers can see and touch live reptiles! For those who appreciate a more high-intensity activity, Dorothea Dix Park is partnering with Runologie 2019 Race Series to host the Hopscotch 8K on September 7th. The fun road race around the Park will be followed by the Hopscotch Day Party and live music on Maywood Avenue.

5. North Carolina Museum of Art and Art Park

Holding over twelve exhibits comprised of art from around the world, The North Carolina Museum of Art is one of Raleigh's most revered institutions. The collections originate from a range of cultures including European, American, African, Egyptian, and Jewish, and span across centuries of history, incorporating paintings from the Renaissance to the 19th century. Aside from the temporary featured exhibits, the NCMA includes a permanent art collection holding over 30 Rodin sculptures, securing it as the leading repository of his work in the southeastern United States.  Other new art pieces from artists like El Anatsui, Roxy Paine, Jaume Plensa, and Ursula von Rydingsvard can now be observed at this hot destination. After enjoying the exhibits indoors, visitors can then step outside the museum and wander through the Anne and Jim Goodnight Museum Park. The 164-acre park has been recently updated to feature public art installations that reflect the natural world and landscapes, including "Cloud Chamber for the Trees and Sky Askew," Gyre rings, and Martha Jackson-Jarvis' sculpture that incorporates Italian glass tiles, carnelian stone, and brick to create spectacular mosaic surfaces.
